Tech stands for "Technical".
The crew itself consist of 3 different units:

- Tech / Support (20 people)
- Tech / Linux ( 7 people)
- Tech / Power ( 3 people)

Main responsibility:

Keeping the physical network and the "clients" (that means you :-) up and running at all times. In other words: problem solving on the fly. Issues such as network failure/connectivity, power failure/connectivity, OS specific problems, driver installation etc are on our daily agenda.

We are the guys'n girls you'll have to interact with if you've got some "technical" problems during The Gathering.

Before the party, Tech puts a lot of effort in strategicly deploying all physical equipment like switches, cables, patches, fiber, etc...
We make sure that everything on the "floor" (public area) is set up in orderly fashion, secured, and works properly.

After the party we do the opposite, tearing stuff down that is, sad but true..

During the party, we are the ones to ask for help regarding *technical* problems. Our helpdesk is located in the "north swing" (see the map), marked with a "Tech/Support" banner. (Also/often referred to as "dispatch".) Polite personell behind the counter will make sure that qualified individual(s) come to help you. (Thats right, almost instant help at your own seat! :-)

For reasons of capacity, we mainly focus on problems related to network/power connectivity. Other (personal) issues such as sorting out SCSI ID settings may get lower priority. Important: Don't be afraid to ask, remember: we are here to help _you_ !! (Always a few seconds to spare, helping to debug your kickass home-made OS. ;-))

A frantic combination of people with different (great) skills build up the crew. Some (if not all) of us do this kind of work on a daily basis. Read: We usually know what we're doing, many of us have got lot of experience :-). Every year we let young and eager (new) people participate, they might be a bit "amateur-ish", please give'em a chance!

Structure:

"Tech/Support" is divided into three teams, five people + one leader each team. We'll have six people working plus six people "standing by" during the whole party.

"Tech/Power" has always one (at least) person standing by in case of major emergency regarding Hi-Voltage problems.

"Tech/Linux" will have at least three people working at all times. Their booth is located right beside the "Tech/Support" helpdesk. (see map)
Note: These guys will help you with specific UNiX/Linux/BSD/SUN/SGI related problems.
