Foreigners at TG
In addition to over 5000 Norwegian nerds, a few foreigners are visiting as well.
We met with two guys travelling all the way from Holland, and this is what they had to say.
Frank Schols and Bianca Kooter are both 23 years old, and this year attending to their second TG.
Why are you guys at The Gathering?
- We like computers of course, but we are really here to meet the people we are talking to through
the Internet everyday. We are a bunch of guys from the gaming community around the game “Dawn of Myth”.
I have never heard of that game
- It was larger before, but there is around 1000 active players, and many are here at The Gathering.
A lot of the players are Norwegians.
So you are here to meet up with the Norwegian players?
Yeah, but we are travelling around with some people from England. Right now we are all at The Gathering,
but we are also visiting other Festivals all around Europe.
But are you only playing here at The Gathering?
No, no! We are downloading from the Internet. Bianca interrupts Karl, - You are downloading, she sais.
- That is true. I am almost raping the network. When I came back from a nap today I had downloaded
8 gigs while I was gone, Frank replies laughing.
Frank and Bianca are attending their second year here at The Gathering. They liked it so much last year
that they wanted to come back again. - We came at Monday two days before The Gathering started.
We’re staying at the motel across the street. The first days we where just sleeping, and got prepared for The Gathering.
So this is like a holiday for you?
Yeah, you can call it a holiday. We used around 105 euros on the plane to Gardermoen.
The motel is about 100 euros. In addition to all other cost, you could get a good holiday for that amount of money.
But are you doing anything else than sitting in the Vikingship?
Last year we stopped in England to met our friends over
there for a party. After that we all went together to TG.
The only problem for Frank and Bianca, is the language. Much of the information is on Norwegian and that causes
a few problems for the foreigners. - We visited the participant-representative because we had some problems with the information.
Most of the notes in the ship are on Norwegian and that caused us problems with the security guards. Why?
A note at the one of the forbidden exits looks like an allowed exit on Dutch, so the security guys were yelling at us in Norwegian. We did not understand, and they got really pissed at us. But now much of the information is in English and that is good.
But we don’t understand what’s broadcasted on the speakers.
